The North Shore of the island of Oahu is where you can see the huge, rolling winter waves in all their might which have made this locale the playground to some of the best surfers in the world. Haleiwa Ali’i Beach Park offers the extremes of Oahu surf; on quiet days it is perfect for beginners; on wilder days it has some of the most exhilarating surf in the region. Leftovers, Rightovers and Alligator Rock offer huge breaking waves just ideal for experienced surfers who like their Oahu surf experience to be dramatic.

The North Shore offers a more peaceful setting in the summer months when the crystal clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and it is a world away from the vibrant scene on the south coast at Waikiki Beach and Honolulu. Waikiki is a collection of beaches where the scene is to sunbathe, swim, sail, snorkel or just people watch. It is here where the majority of Oahu’s hotels are located and there is easy access to Honolulu and the rest of the island so it is a great place to stay for Oahu surf breaks.

There are more Oahu surf spots to the South of the island. Bowls & Kaisers are where the hard-core experts go. Canoes are great for beginners but some of the most crowded surfing in the world. Diamond Head Cliffs is where the Oahu surf natives go. Old Man’s draws a wide variety of those looking for Oahu surf action. These are just a few of the surfing locations available around the island to give you a flavour of the variety that the island’s coastline offers surfers.

Honolulu is a energetic city and a great place to explore and experience some marvellous culinary delights. Culture lovers should visit the ornate Iolani Palace and colourful Chinatown is where you’ll find a good mixture of art galleries, restaurants and shopping canters.

Away from the city, the south coast of Oahu is good to explore, taking in Diamond Head, which offers remarkable views. Meandering along the 26 beaches is a treat, especially Hanauma Bay, which is great for snorkelling. Head to the east coast of the island and there are several historic sugar mills and the Polynesian Cultural Centre, one of Hawaii’s most popular attractions which commemorate the people and culture of Polynesia.
